Arlene Pickett, age 74 of Turtle Lake, ND died Friday, September 29, 2006 at the SCCI Hospital in Mandan, ND.

Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 4, 2006;
Trinity Lutheran Church - Turtle Lake, ND;
Rev. Karen Nelson, Officiating;
Interment: Turtle Lake Cemetery;
Visitation: 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home - Turtle Lake;
Wednesday, 1 hour prior to time of service at the church.

Arlene was born March 12, 1932 at Turtle Lake, ND the daughter to John J.& Lydia (Rothmann) Schlafmann. She was raised on the family farm east of Turtle Lake and attended school in Turtle Lake. In 1945, her family moved to Bismarck where Arlene attended Bismarck Public Schools. She worked as a bookkeeper for her father and was employed at Rexall Drug in Bismarck for several years. Arlene married Donald H. Pickett in 1960 at Aberdeen, SD. In 1974, she and her husband Donald returned to the Turtle Lake area where they lived and farmed west of town. Arlene enjoyed working outside and tending to her garden. She is remembered for being an excellent cook and enjoyed trying new recipes. Her kitchen was often full of wonderful baked goods and drop-in guests were always welcome. She enjoyed watching football and NASCAR races on television, and throughout her lifetime enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and making various crafts.

6 Daughters, Gloria (Jerry) Braxmeyer of Bismarck, ND, Cindy (Chuck) Hillard of West Union, OH, DeAnn Pickett of Turtle Lake, ND, Cindy Pickett of Kasson, MN, Marsha Hawkins of Kasson, MN, Denise (Mark) Lukawski of Oronoco, MN; 3 Sons, James Barrett of Mandan, ND, Scott Pickett of Turtle Lake, ND, & Dennis Pickett of Minneapolis, MN; 11 Grandchildren & 11 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother (Albert Schlafmann), 1 sister-in-law (Ruth Schlafmann), & 1 grandson (Michael Barrett).
