On April 20th, 2017 God called another angel home and our family unexpectedly lost the most influential woman to grace our lives.

Funeral services for Arlene will be held 10:30 AM Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Turtle Lake Baptist Church, Turtle Lake with Pastor Steve Vetter officiating. Interment will be in the Turtle Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday all at the church in Turtle Lake.

Arlene Jane (Bauer) Mees was born January 8, 1938 to Gottlieb and Elsie (Singer) Bauer in The Dalles, Oregon. She moved with her family to the Turtle Lake area in 1941. She attended the Turtle Lake schools and graduated in 1957.

She married Donald Schatz in December 1956 and from this union her 3 daughters were born. Shortly after this they moved their family to Dallas, Texas where she ended up raising her 3 daughters as a single mother, at a time when single mothers' were few. In 1975 she moved back to ND. In 1982, she married Herman W Mees and they were married 23 years until his death in November 2005. Arlene's working history spanned owning a cafe, being a meter maid in Dallas, Texas and many years of bookkeeping and secretarial work. In her retirement she became a "nanny" to the Thompson children and they became her 2nd family.

Arlene was a long standing member of the Turtle Lake Baptist Church, which was where she was baptized and married. She enjoyed gardening, but most of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy !

Arlene is survived by her 3 daughters, Patricia (Milton) Albrecht, Sheila (Stanley) Olson both of Turtle Lake, and Brenda (Howard) Adao of Auburn, WA; 7 grandchildren, Michael and Jason Albrecht, Natasha (James) Burt, Tomi-Elizabeth (Scottie) Winebrinner, David (Rebecca) Carmon, Samantha Olson (Tyler Taix) and Shelby Olson; five step-children and one special stepson, David (Carmen) Mees of Mandan; two sisters, Virginia Woodworth of Bismarck and Peggy (O'Neil) Kauk of Baldwin; one brother, Larry (Shirley) Bauer of Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Mees, her parents, Gottlieb and Elsie Bauer, a brother, Verlyn Bauer, a sister, Irene Bauer, and a grandson, Clifton.
