Almira Nelson, age 79 of Washburn, ND, died February 2nd, 2014 at her home. A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, February 15th at First Lutheran Church in Washburn. Officiating will be the Rev. Erik Johnson. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Almira was born April 8, 1934 in Washburn, ND the daughter of George and Leora (Gortmaker) Wicklander. She was raised and educated in Washburn where she graduated from high school in 1952. Almira married Carl Nelson on April 5, 1953 at the First Lutheran Church. Following their marriage they lived five mile west of Washburn. Almira worked for the McLean county clerk of courts and as a bailiff for the county. She also worked for the ND Game and Fish Department, counting fish on the Missouri River. Almira was an entrepreneur who enjoyed selling Tupperware, Artex Paint and Park Lane Jewelry. She truly enjoyed her home parties. Almira was a member of first Lutheran Church. WELCA, Sakakawea Homemakers Club and served on the Thrivent board for many years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, square dancing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Almira also enjoyed being outdoors and caring for her flowers and trees. She received awards from the McLean County Soil Conservation for her work on the farm. Almira is survived by her husband Carl of Washburn; a son Jeffery and special friend Deborah of Washburn; a daughter Karla Nelson (James Kirst) of Rapid City, SD; 4 Grandchildren, Joshua Sims, Andrea Johnson, Laura Barlow, Kayla Trombetta; 8 Great Grandchildren, Hailey, Emily, Maycee, Avia, Zoe, Giana, Eva and Cason; two brothers, Ray (Peggy) Wicklander of Washburn, Paul (Beverly) Wicklander of Lansing, MI; five sisters, Dorothy Antilla of Raymond, WA, Nancy (Emil) Geiger of Shady Cove, OR, Grace (Eddie) Bryant of Albuquerque, NM, Roberta (Dwane) Noon of Wilton, ND, Margaret Harbeson of Washington; and many nieces and nephews. Almira was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, William Nelson; a sister, Betty Ludwig and two brothers, Gary and Alan.
