Alice Darlene (Just) Neumiller was born August 31, 1928, in rural Mercer, North Dakota the second daughter to Justina (Bender) and Emmanuel Just. She was third born in a family of nine children. She attended rural school south of Mercer, ND. Alice married Theodore (Ted) Neumiller on November 12, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church, south of Mercer, ND. They made their home on Ted's family farm until moving to Mercer in 1958. They farmed until 1960 when they began operating the Mercer Café. In 1962, Ted and Alice purchased the Mercer Locker Plant and developed an excellent reputation for their ability to butcher and process meat. After closing the Locker Plant, Alice worked at Borth's department Store in Turtle Lake. In 1971, Ted and Alice moved their family to Turtle Lake, ND. Alice continued to work at the store for several years, she then worked at the Turtle Lake-Mercer School washing dishes and getting to know all the school kids. Alice's last job was working at the Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital and finally retired at age 86.
Alice enjoyed embroidering dishtowels, sharing them with many family members, friends and loved ones. She was an avid reader, and loved watching her "stories". She liked playing word search games and loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had an amazing ability to say something that would make you laugh until tears flowed, even though she maybe didn't mean to.
Alice lived most of her life in Turtle Lake. The last year of her life she moved four times. First to her daughter Tarri's home, then back home for a short time, then the Turtle Lake Manor where she was privileged to live with some lifelong friends close by. Her last home was at St. Gabriel's Nursing Home, where she briefly enjoyed all the "fun" things to do there.
Alice is survived by her six children, Linda Barth of Mandan, Les and Jackie Neumiller of Philipsburg, MT, Beverly Neumiller of Turtle Lake, Bruce and Connie Neumiller of Turtle Lake, Debbie and Jeff Presser of Turtle Lake, and Tarri and Keith Blotter of Bismarck; her eight grandchildren, Mitch and Stacy Neumiller, Carmen Maier, Jennifer and Michael Huelsman, Neal and Lindsey Presser, Sierra Blotter, Drew Baker, Skyler Blotter and Katie Neumiller; her eight great grandchildren, Cadence Maier, Peyton Neumiller, Kambree Neumiller, Reagan Neumiller, Bridger Huelsman, Brekken Huelsman, Claire Presser and Jack Presser. Alice is also survived by a sister, Loretta (Whitey) Schiermeister and a brother-in-law Harold Neumiller.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Teddy, who left her way too soon; her parents and many brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Alice is finally reunited with Teddy and will be missed and remembered by all who loved her, especially her family.
