Al was born August 14, 1931 in Washburn, ND to Clayton and Lula Carvell. He grew up in Washburn and attended Washburn High School. In 1959, he married Janet Anderson and they had two children, Monte (Victoria) Carvell and Brenda Carvell Jones (Kevin Cobb); two grandsons, Andrew and Jack Carvell; and two great-grandsons, Owen Carvell and Riley Carvell.
Al was a lifetime farmer and continued farming in retirement by volunteering with Farm Rescue. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Washburn, a Mason, a Shriner, an avid card player, active coffee club participant and storyteller, and a devoted friend and family man. He loved Washburn and actively supported the Cardinals over the decades. He enjoyed the weekly, winter McLean County breakfasts. He equally loved North Dakota, volunteering annually in Medora and at the Norsk Hostfest, though he found winter in Arizona most agreeable.
Beyond his immediate family, Al is survived by brothers Delbert (Marlys) and Milton (Ardis) Carvell and sister Orlene Nundahl.
Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church of Washburn, PO Box 218, Washburn, ND, 58577.
