Adam Freidig, 91, formerly of Hensler, ND died March 16, 2020, at home in Eventide Senior Living Center, Fargo, ND of natural causes.
Adam was born August 13, 1928 to Joseph and Rose (Yantzer) Freidig. He was raised and educated near Hensler, ND. At the age of 17, he moved to Bismarck, ND and worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department. He married Sylvia Braaten on February 12, 1953 in Bismarck, ND and they made their home in Webster, ND where he worked for the Ramsey County Highway Department. In 1980, they moved to Hensler and he worked for the Oliver County Highway Department. After 57 years building and maintaining roads throughout North Dakota he retired in the spring of 2003. Adam was a charismatic man that loved to visit and joke with people. He could strike up a conversation with anyone he met and enjoyed meeting new people. Family was very important to Adam and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Adam enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, and spending time with friends and family. In 2016, Eventide Senior Living Center in Fargo became home to Adam and he thoroughly enjoyed his new home with the residents and staff becoming like family to him.
He is survived by four sons, Wayne (Esther), Hensler, ND David (Kathy), Crary, Allan (Robin), Devils Lake, ND and Kevin (Kathy), Highlands Ranch, CO.; two daughters, Janice (Randy) Wigen, Fargo and Sandi (Luke) Lillehaugen, Brocket, ND; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; in-laws Joyce Freidig, Center, ND, Fred and Valerie Piatz, Devils Lake, ND, Rosemary Braaten, Devils Lake, ND, Clayton Braaten, Bemidji, MN, Gilmore and Bonnie Braaten, Brownsville, TX; many nieces and nephews; and all his special friends from Eventide, and his wonderful companion, Mavis Magnus. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; grandchildren, Evan Freidig and Nell Freidig; his beloved dog, Trixie; brothers, Matt, Joe, John, and Tony; and his sisters, Frances Staigle, Elizabeth Weisgarber, Margaret Carmen and Mary Staigle.
A special thank you to all the staff at Eventide Senior Living Center for their care and compassion.
A private family burial will take place on Thursday, March 19th. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing, a celebration of Adam's life will be held at Eventide and in Washburn on a later date.
