Dorothy Boger, age 82 of Underwood, ND died Friday, July 1, 2011 at a Bismarck hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 5th at Augustana Lutheran Church in Underwood with Pastor Joel Sherer officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at Goetz Funeral Home in Underwood with a 7:00 PM family service.
Dorothy Lorraine Syverson was born October 8, 1928 near Ulen, MN to Oliver & Julia (Brenna) Syverson. In 1950, at the age of 21 she was diagnosed with tuberculosis and spent 4 ½ years receiving treatment at the Sunny Rest Sanatorium in Crookston, MN and the Glen Lake Sanatorium in Minneapolis. Following her discharge, she lived and worked in Twin Valley, MN where she met her future husband, Rueben “Dutch” Boger. They were united in marriage on December 7th, 1957. They and their blended family moved to Coleharbor, ND in 1958. Dorothy was employed at the Harbor Bar and the Highway 83 Café in Coleharbor. Dorothy & Reuben moved to Underwood in June 1968 where she worked at Lloyd’s Corner Bar, the Prairieview Nursing Home, and at Radke’s Fairway Grocery. They moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1988 and got involved in the auction business, assisting her sister & brother-in-law clerking for Babler Auction Service in the Red River Valley and surrounding area. Dorothy enjoyed socializing with her many friends at the Bingo Palace and making many “casino runs” throughout the years. She also enjoyed doing needlework and raising flowers. Dorothy was a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and a member of both the Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks and the Augustana Lutheran Church in Underwood. Dorothy and Dutch returned to Underwood in 2007. She recently became a resident of the Garrison Memorial Hospital Swing-Bed Unit.
She is survived by her husband, Rueben “Dutch” Boger of Underwood; six children, Mike (Debbie) Baumgartner of Dubuque, IA, Marilyn (Graydon) Ash of Underwood, Connie (Tim) Scheer of Minneapolis, MN, Kim (Shawn) Boger of Queen Creek, AZ, Tamara Bankowski of Lodi, CA, & Jody (Steven) Paterson of Bismarck; 16 grandchildren & 21 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Beatrice (Mick) Sather of Mobridge, SD & LaVonne (Vince) Babler of Borup, MN; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers (Oris, Raymond, Milan, & Leonard), sisters (Orpha, Myrtle, & Lois), & 4 infant siblings.
