Regina Schell

Regina Schell, age 95 of Bismarck, formerly of Mercer, ND, died Saturday, July 21st at the Primrose Retirement Community in Bismarck.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 25th at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mercer with Pastor Randy Emgarten officiating. Interment will follow at the Mercer Hillside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with a 7:00 PM family service.

Regina was born on Thursday, August 31, 1916 on a farm six miles southwest of Mercer, ND, the fourth of five children born to Rudolph & Magdelina (Hoffer) Bossert. When Regina was born, a loaf of bread cost 7 cents and a gallon of gas cost 14 cents. She attended rural school through the 8th grade and helped out on the farm, assisting in cooking and cleaning, and other general farm work. She milked cows from the time she was old enough to sit on a stool (this was not one of her favorite jobs to do).

Regina married Albert Schell on June 30, 1936 in Washburn. During her first year of marriage, she helped Justina Just cook for the local threshers. Regina and Albert homesteaded four miles south of Mercer and raised six children, Ella Marie, Sally Ann, Bonnie Lou, Ruby Jean, Calvin Lloyd, & Robert Dean. While on the farm, she and Albert bought chickens each Spring and butchered chickens as soon as they were big enough to eat. Regina was a homemaker that loved canning, quilting, and baking. In January 1991, Regina and Albert bought the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Mercer. Albert passed away on September 27, 1999. In March 2006, Regina moved to the Primrose Retirement Community in Bismarck where she enjoyed social events, playing bingo, watching movies, doing crafts, and most importantly playing pinochle. Regina is remembered for always being “on the go” and being hard to keep track of.

She is survived by four daughters, Ella Marie (Harold) Helm of Bismarck, Sally Ann Hanson of Bismarck, Bonnie Lou (Bruce) Hedstrom of Wilton, Ruby Jean (Don) Weible of Wilton; two sons, Cal (Barb) Schell of Bismarck, & Robert Schell of Bismarck; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, & 4 great-great grandchildren; & one sister, Marie Bossert of Bismarck.

Regina was preceded in death by her husband (Albert), one sister (Frieda), two brothers (John & stillborn brother), two sons-in-law (Karl & Arnie), & two great grandchildren (Alysha Vetter & Eric Stockert).
